The school year at PS/IS 187 is in full swing, and so are all the art programs funded by Friends of 187! Here are a few highlights of what is happening in the classrooms:
- Drama with Anne Pasquale: Students in 2nd grade drama are storytelling using creative dramatic tools to create original personal or curriculum-relevant stories. A classroom performance will be performed for family and friends at the end of the lesson!
- Visual Arts with Molly George: Our 3rd grade students are exploring using items that would usually be thrown into a landfill to make art or to up-cycle old times to be reused again. The students are also learning about contemporary artists that have sustainable practices. Look for a showcase at the end for invited family and friends.
- Drama with Greg Paul: Fourth grade students are producing a piece based on the theme “Do the right thing/make the right decisions." They are doing it all, including writing, exploring character development, costume making, prop and set design, backstage management and performing. An exciting showcase of their work will be performed for friends and family!
- Stop Motion Animation with Roee Messinger: Our 5th graders are in the process of developing their own stories and exploring Stop Motion Animation as a vehicle to tell them. Students are learning basic cinematography to create some of their own props to use in their films by learning some clay sculpting skills. A screening of the students’ films for invited family and friends will be announced!
